Just over a month ago, I competed at my last ever Irish dancing competition and placed 7th. This competition was the World Championships which were held for the very first time in my home country, England. Although I was really hoping to finally make it into the top 5 after years of being painfully close, I didn’t quite manage it. Yes I was a little disappointed at the time, but looking back I appreciate that being top ten in the world is something to pride myself on, and I am so proud of myself for the hard work I put in to achieve this.
Today I ended another chapter in my life: high school. Today was my last official day of school, but it still hasn’t sunk in yet! I have had such an amazing time at sixth form, and although studying for A levels has been the hardest thing I could’ve ever imagined, I have made some life-long friends and had such great experiences that I will never forget.
I honestly can’t imagine leaving the dancing world forever, as it has been such a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I currently don’t know what part irish dance will play in my future, but I do know that I will always be involved in it somehow, whether that be teaching, or just coming to competitions to watch.
As a side note, I am so so thankful I discovered the irish dance community on tumblr! I love how everyone is supportive of each other and honestly you are all so inspirational! Good look to all of you in both irish dance and academics/other stuff!!
